It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have already been conquered.

This is the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the achievement hunters, are the only things left for a team that has accomplished all there is.

It needed as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to hold a record if not afforded the opportunity.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a chance to produce her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India temporarily stopped the run of success.

That loss "drove us to rethink our standards," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not fail again.

If this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Certain people claim the reasoning behind final game tension. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this innings followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it's been a frustrating experience because I feel like my form was missing at all," stated Healy.

"However when you take the field, your competitive nature take over and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has continuously been her major advantage - and an invaluable trait in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and after that the right-hander was underway.

"A chance to go out there and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

By the time she was out the team required another 66 at a run-a-ball - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the belief to do that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, should it happen, we know we can do it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup want to hear.

In recent days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this triumph coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she wished she had played with the discomfort.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this championship is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured an international tournament as leader.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
